GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
Exceptional student leaders are invited to apply for the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program.  In honor of the legacy and character of President Ronald Reagan, this program annually rewards up to 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per recipient).  Applications will be accepted online at: www.reaganfoundation.org/GE-RFScholarships.aspx

Linly Heflin Scholarship
The Linly Heflin Scholarship Committee grants 4 year scholarships in the amount of $3,000 per year to a limited number of Alabama women who have both significant economic need and a sound academic record.  Certain requirements must be met: (1) Scholarships are restricted to 4 year Alabama, SACS accredited colleges.  (2) The minimum ACT score must be 23.  (3)  It is for Alabama and US citizens only.
(4) Financial need. (5) Academic proficiency.  Applications can be downloaded and must be postmarked by January10.  www.linlyheflin.org

Playing With Purpose Award
Scholarships of up to $14,000 are available to Christian Student Athletes.  Athletes must meet the following criteria to apply: (1) Currently a high school sophomore, junior, or senior. (2) Maintains a minimum “C” average or higher (3) Currently a varsity level athlete in one or more sports (4) a committed follower of Jesus Christ.  Apply by February 1 at www.playingwithpurpose.org

Smith Foundation Scholarship
This foundation is designed to fund college scholarships for deserving students throughout Alabama.  It is for graduating high school seniors who must have at least a C average and who are planning to attend a four year public college in the state of Alabama.  Nursing majors may attend an accredited two year institution.  The student must also have worked significantly with family and/or community and must have taken the ACT.  Apply online at:  www.smithscholarships.com

Burger King McLamore Foundation
All North America high school seniors, BURGER KING employees, their dependent children, or spouses are eligible to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship awards. High school seniors must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale to be eligible. Apply at:  www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram

B. Davis Scholarship

The Great Alabama District of Key Club International
There are THREE Key Club Scholarships in the Alabama district and all have a deadline of February 17.  The Kiwanis Matching Scholarship will award several at $1,000.  The Matt Palys Memorial awards one or two at $500.  The H. Pettus Randall Memorial at $1,000, is for one student who will be attending the University of Alabama.  Check http://alabamakeyclub.org/ for availability

United Way of Etowah County Young Leader’s Society
The applicant must:

  • Be a graduate of an Etowah County high school
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Demonstrate leadership ability and community involvement
  • Financial need will also be considered in the selection process.

Cedar Bend Lodge #583 F&AM 2014 Scholarship

  • Applicant must live within the Rainbow City/Southside area, OR be a child or grandchild of a Cedar Bend Lodge #583 or Coosa Valley Chapter #551 OES member. 
  • Amount of scholarship is $1,000 and will be awarded based on need, community involvement, and academics. 

Kiwanis Club of Gadsden Scholarship
The Kiwanis Club of Gadsden has $10,000 for year 2015 scholarships to be awarded to graduating seniors. Applicants must have:

  • Maintained at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the 4 years of high school.  Greater consideration may be given to students who have taken advanced classes.
  • Demonstrated qualities of positive leadership
  • Proof of ACT and/or SAT scores and current transcript required
  • Excellent reputation and character
  • Demonstrated a highly motivated attitude with a desire to excel
  • Indicated maturity and ability to handle college work successfully
  • Key club membership is required only for the Jimmy Howard Scholarship.

Other factors, such as financial need may be considered by the committee.

Alabama Center for Architecture
These scholarships are available for architectural students in a multi county area, including Etowah county.  Formerly the Birmingham Architectural Foundation Scholarship Program, this organization awarded $9,000 in scholarships last year.  You may call 205-322-4386 with questions.  The scholarship application is available online at:  www.alcfa.org/scholarships

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
This is a scholarship for students who cannot attend college without financial assistance. The following students are encouraged to apply:

  • High school seniors and current undergraduates
  • Those who plan to enroll full time at a 4-year college or university
  • Those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry

Varsity Tutors Scholarship Contest Description
Varsity Tutors holds a monthly $1,000 college scholarship contest where students write an essay in response to a monthly prompt. Entries are reviewed by Varsity Tutors at the end of the month and one winner is subsequently chosen to receive the $1,000 college scholarship. ***FAFSA***
Most colleges require a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for each student considering any type of financial help or scholarships from their institution.  Seniors may complete the FAFSA online beginning as early as October 1.  The money is awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
